Dr Steven Ma obtained his medical degree in Queensland before returning to Sydney, where he spent several years working at St George Hospital and Sutherland Hospital. He has broad experience in general adult medicine, having worked across various specialities such as General/Liver Surgery, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency, Cardiology, Respiratory, Infectious disease and Renal medicine. Following this, he completed an additional three years of general practice training with an extended skills term dedicated to skin cancer medicine. He also has experience in musculoskeletal medicine, having previously worked and fully qualified as a physiotherapist.
Dr Ma’s special interest is in the early detection of skin cancer using dermoscopy, and he has dedicated a large part of his clinical practice to this area of medicine in the past few years. He is a member of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia. He has completed further postgraduate certifications in skin cancer medicine, including a diploma in dermoscopy and a certificate in applied dermoscopy from the Australian College of Dermatologists. He is currently studying to complete a Master of Medicine in Skin Cancer from the University of Queensland. He also has the experience and training in minor surgery/procedures such as skin cancer excisions, cyst excision, mole removal, and Implanon insertion/removal.
Dr Ma believes in delivering high-quality primary care where thoroughness, attention to detail and a holistic approach are key to effectively treating a patient’s illness.
Steven is interested in classical music and playing the piano outside of medicine.
