Dr Pushpika Wijethilake

MBBS, MSc, MD, FRACGP

Dr Pushpika is a well regarded and highly qualified General Practitioner who is part of our team in Keilor Medical Clinic. She graduated from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka with her medical degree many years ago. She has worked in rural and city hospitals in Sri Lanka such as the District Hospital in Walapane, the National Hospital in Colombo, Lady Ridgeway Hospital (tertiary children’s hospital in Sri Lanka and one of the biggest in the world), Family Health Bureau in Colombo and the Teaching hospital in Galle. She also worked for the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka.

Dr Pushpika is very passionate about Community Medicine and the role it can play in improving the health of the population. She completed multiple postgraduate qualifications in this field starting with a Master of Science in Community Medicine in 2001, followed by a Doctor of Medicine in Community Medicine in 2008. Currently, she is a Visiting Academic and Post-doctoral research fellow at the Alfred Centre and Monash University’s Department of Epidemiology and Preventative Medicine.

She is currently a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Alfred Hospital in the Department of Musculoskeletal Medicine and Rheumatology. Through this work, she has published two research papers.

While she has an impressive academic record and research background, she loves nothing more than spending time with her patients to help them recover from their ailments and apply her knowledge in the day to day lives of people. What she enjoys most about General Practice is being able to improve the quality of care for her patients. Her special interest within General Practice is Geriatric Medicine which is the study of Medicine as it applies to elderly patients. She has also completed a Certificate in Clinical Occupational Medicine at Monash University. Outside work, Dr Pushpika enjoys music.

She consults full time at our clinic.
